Checking a joint without breaking it
The traditional way to check a spot weld is a peel or chisel test, which damages or destroys the joint. It works, but the part is scrap and you only learn about the welds you destroyed.
Ultrasonic testing sends sound into the joint and reads the echo, so an operator can check weld size or adhesive coverage on the finished part, on the line, and keep a record of every result.
